Taken the afternoon off today as we have been at the Civic Hall, Conwy, every night for the last week working on the annual Teenz & Kidz pantomime. This year's show was Goldilocks and the Three bears.
This drama workshop was set-up 15 years ago this week with the aim of " Getting the Kids off the streets" and the membership is open to all and consists of a diverse background. I enjoy being the Chairman of this group and also Chief Bottle Washer as the feedback we receive from the local schools and parents is very positive regarding the confidence and self esteem these children build up whilst being members of the group. It was a first panto for a few of our members this year and they were totally confident when it came to going on the stage, which is credit to our tutors and volunteers.
Some of the laughs were at my expense though as there were a few Priestley one liners put in to the script!!! Even the children were ad-libbing by the end of the week!!!
Teenz and Kidz are a group of volunteers who rely on the children paying subs each week and fundraising to survive. We also receive donations from Conwy and Llandudno Town Councils and local business's who are very generous even in these difficult times. We also hold a number of activities each year and now run the annual Llandudno Junction Fun day, held in the Summer on Cae Derw playing field.
We finished the panto last night and the feedback from the audience was very positive indeed, last nights attendance was around 100. The Children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and so did I working with 4 others backstage on the scenery. This morning we went back to the Civic Hall to clear up. Next Saturday we have a party for the Children to celebrate and recognise their success.
It really is a tonic to see the children not only grow in confidence but smile, laugh and generally have a great time.
