Cardiff

Just back from Cardiff after a meeting with all Wales Environment Cabinet members and Welsh Assembly officials.

On the agenda was the "Municipal Sector Waste Plan" which will be out for public consultation on 21st June. The plan will basically set out the details of how local authorities will meet the targets of 70% recycling and composting levels to be achieved by 2024/25. Conwy is currently recycling and composting 42% so as you can see we need to improve by an additional 28% by 2024/25, failure to meet the target may result in fines of £200 per Tonne over the exceeded limit.

On another note, whilst in Cardiff I was approached by beggars on 4 occasions, this has never happened to me before in Cardiff. A sad sign of the times??

Tatton RHS Show

This year we return to Tatton and are entering our parks department in the Council flowerbed competition. The picture above is our entry in 2008, that won gold medal and best in show, later in the year it also won the Wiggan cup, which is best out of all the RHS shows, basically best in Britain. This year our team will be joined by our tourism and marketing colleagues who will be giving out Conwy tourism information to the 100K visitors. I have argued that lots of Tatton visitors can be our Conwy short stay visitors. I feel we have to get out there at every opportunity to sell Conwy.

Anti Social Birdsong

Chauffeured my two girls to and from Radio Ones Big Weekend yesterday, so ended up having a late night last night.

I am the first to say that birdsong first thing in the morning is one of natures gifts to us mere mortals, but 4.30 this morning a blackbird sung his heart out and hasn't stopped yet (10.15) I just hope whoever he is singing for is worth it!!!!

Bangor was buzzing yesterday and will do today, Chris Moyles and his sidekick Comedy Dave (Radio 1 DJ's) has done us locals proud by promoting North Wales. I will take this experience forward in Conwy County Borough Council. We have to make the most out of tourism especially now with the state of the Euro, Ash Clouds and Air strikes, if we can't take advantage now we never will, just MY view.

Looking Back

I had to laugh when I saw this pie, silly things make me chuckle and then it took me right back to my childhood, it reminded me of "Desperate Dan" from that good old comic The Dandy.

Time to move on

I am receiving a few silly comments regarding the election and who should have won. The bottom line is that I was disappointed with my result and would have liked a few more votes, but I am sure I speak on behalf of most of the candidates when I say that.
I have gained from the experience of standing in a General Election and will take that forward into the future, so now, for me it's time to move on and hopefully forward.

Election 2010 Aberconwy

My congratulations to Guto Bebb on winning the seat in Aberconwy this morning and my heartfelt thanks to my wife and family for all their support during my hard, honest, well fought campaign. I would also like to thank my agent Chris Humphreys and all my team, also the people of Aberconwy for the warmth on the doorstep, I believe that I am a better person for this experience and am committed to working for the people of Aberconwy. My particular thanks to the residents of Marl and Pensarn for their support.
Once again Thanks to all for their support.

Thursday 6th May General Election

A final post before you all go out to vote. Before you place an X against the Candidate or Party, I thought I would like to remind you of the Liberal Democrat Four main pledges:

Fairer Taxes that put money back in your pocket. You will pay no tax on the first £10,000 that you earn - cutting most tax bills by £700.

A Fair Chance for every child. Smaller class sizes, more money into schools and abolish university tuition fees.

A Fair Future: Create jobs by making Britain greener. Invest in public transport, renewable energy and energy efficient homes.

A Fair Deal for you from politicians. Make politicians accountable and sack corrupt MPs.

I truly believe that this is change that will work for you. It is up to you how you vote, thank you to everyone for all the kind words and support during my campaign. Speak soon, Mike
