The Marl Ward

One part of the job I really enjoy is getting out and about meeting residents on the Ward. The best way to meet residents is when delivering Ward News Letters. Today whilst out delivering I must have spoken to around 30 people and picked up a few issues to resolve along the way. Whilst delivering Victoria Crescent I had the chance to bump into a constituent that I knew was a great Gardener and shows vegetables and flowers in many Horticultural shows. I asked if he had anything on the go at the moment and he invited me into his garden. What a little oasis it was with Leeks 4ft tall and this Dahlia the size of a football, he also had some beautiful gladiola.

Sorry to ramble on but as I said I do really enjoy walking the Ward, if not delivering leaflets I take "Jelly" our dog for a walk.

Some messages of good will regarding my appointment at the Walton Centre were also made today as well as a concern from a resident about a neighbours mental health, you really do not know what's coming next. That said I have enjoyed getting out and about and hopefully getting a little fitter!!!.

The Walton Centre for Neurology & Neurosurgery

I have recently been elected Governor at The Walton Centre, Liverpool. This is an honour for me as I will be representing the people of North Wales. The Walton Centre is now a Foundation Trust. Achieving foundation trust status means that the centre has greater freedom to decide locally how to tailor its services for the benefit of its patients. It is also more accountable to the communities it serves and this is where the role of governor comes in. Basically a governor is a critical friend to the trust. The Walton Centre is committed to being an international centre of clinical excellence in the treatment, provision, research and education of neurological care.

The Walton Centres aim is to become the UKs premier provider of specialist neurosciences services. I have been to Liverpool twice, one for an induction and the second time for the trusts AGM and my first governors meeting.

I stood for this position for a number of reasons. One, this centre saved my daughters life. Two, I led on a petition against the stupid Plaid/Labour proposal to send North Wales Neuro patients down south to Cardiff or Swansea for treatment. Three, I also promoted the Centre to become a foundation trust.

We should be proud here in North Wales as we have the second highest number of trust members out of the four constituencies. The membership is as follows:

I believe the Walton Centre will be sending out a press release this week regarding my election success.

Ward News, Environmental Clean up

I will be assisting with this "Environment Day" on October 6th. All properties in the area to be covered by this event will receive this leaflet in good time to prepare. Environment days are very popular and we carry out one a month in different wards.

The main areas to be covered are Victoria Drive and Marl Drive and all side roads.

Night out

My wife and I spent the night with friends in Deganwy last night, we started off with a drink in The Deganwy Quay Hotel and then enjoyed a fantastic meal at Paysanne restaurant.

We felt the service was great, the atmosphere was relaxing and the food was excellent.This restaurant really is a little French gem.

Conwy Honey Fair Monday 13th September

Another great event in the Calendar is the Honey Fair in Conwy, this will be held in Conwy High Street and Lancaster Square on Monday 13th September, between 9am and 4pm.

Below is an extract from the fairs website and what they welcome:


Honey and hive products.

Plants and seeds.

Local crafts appropriate to the theme of the Fair, eg. Bees and honey and plants.

Home produce: jams, pickles, cakes, pies, fruit etc.

Charities selling their own new merchandise or any of the above.

High Street shopkeepers’ own stalls outside their shops.



This Fair dates back more than 700 years to the reign of Edward 1st, when local beekeepers were given the right to sell honey within the walls of Conwy. I believe they were only allowed to sell on September 13th from Midnight to Midnight.

Maesdu Bridge Open Today at 4pm

The long awaited opening of Maesdu Bridge will take place today at 4pm.
There is still some minor work to take place over the next two weeks but I am informed that these works will need little or no traffic management.

Farmers Market

I hope to attend this tomorrow and purchase some fresh produce and it's been pointed out to me that the date tomorrow is 8.9.10.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board

I noticed the choose well logo on this information leaflet.

The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is launching a campaign aimed at informing people about where to get the best treatment should they become unwell or are injured.

The Choose Well Campaign will encourage patients to make the right decisions in order to receive the most appropriate and timely treatment.

Not much Choice when you close a facility but is this a sign of the times?

Betws-y-Coed

Well, most of the family made it up to Betws-y-Coed and we had lunch in the Pont-y-Pair Hotel, I can't comment on the restaurant as we had bar meals. I started with Pigeon Breast salad with a raspberry dressing and I must say it was gorgeous, I followed that with a mixed grill which was enjoyable. My wife and daughter shared a Garlic bread with cheese and they both said it was one of the tastiest garlic breads they had ever tasted, for mains my wife had Ham and Mushroom pasta, again very tasty, my daughter had a home made burger as daughters do!!

I will go back and this time eat in the restaurant, probably in the winter time, when I would expect the Hotel to be very cosy.
